- The Kids Dash drew over 5,000 children and parents at this year’s SCSM.
- Asian Games gold medallist, Shanti Pereira, made an appearance to flag off the first race of the three-day marquee event.
It was all ear-to-ear smiles and some earnest looks as the kids lined up to take off in the 650-metre Kids Dash at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2023. Over 5,000 parents and children 12 and below ran the first of the weekend’s races along the iconic F1 Pit Building today, giving this category a 25% boost in participation compared to last year.
Participants were thrilled to be greeted by Singapore’s sprint queen, Shanti Pereira, at the start line before she flagged off the race, marking the start of the three-day race event of the 22nd Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM).
Supporters were eager for a photo with the 27-year-old golden girl, and she obliged their requests, signing autographs and posing for photos with the fans.
Pereira said, “It’s wonderful that so many children are excited to join the Kids Dash every year. Seeing parents supporting their children’s athletic dreams is so heart-warming. I hope this will inspire more young boys and girls to take part in running, be it marathons or sprints, and have fun.”
The Kids Dash Carnival also added to the excitement this year, with activities like face painting, game booths, a bouncy castle and more that were open to the public.
Participating in the Kids Dash for the first time this year with her five- and three-year-old daughters, Shamini Ghana said, “My older daughter, Neha, has always been the “little sprinter” in our family. So, we decided to take part in the Kids Dash, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.”
The 5km, and 10km race categories flagged off on December 2, 2023, while the Marathon and Half Marathon took place on December 3, 2023.
